PETA Slams Hyderabad Pharma Lab, Seeks CCSEA Action to Rescue 1,200 Beagles, Monkeys

New Delhi: A Hyderabad-based pharmaceutical company's bioscience laboratory in Telangana has been called out by animal rights group PETA India, along with scientists, who staged a protest at Jantar Mantar alleging cruelty towards animals, including beagle dogs and monkeys, through experiments despite the availability of alternative research methods.

According to a recent media reports in the Times of India, the organisation alleged that the laboratory was carrying out painful experiments on around 1,200 animals, including beagles and monkeys, despite the availability of scientific alternatives. It demanded the immediate rescue of all animals kept at the facility.

As part of the protest, participants performed a street play in which people dressed as scientists restrained PETA India Director Poorva Joshipura in a chair and subjected her to mock procedures intended to represent what the animals reportedly endure.

PETA India urged the Committee for the Control and Supervision of Experiments on Animals (CCSEA) to step in, conduct an inquiry, and secure the release of the animals from the laboratory.

Times of India reports that the demonstration highlighted the urgency of regulatory action and the need to relocate the animals from the facility at the earliest.
